Parents FAQ

How old does my child have to be to join SYC?

At the moment between the ages of 10-16.

How much does it cost for my child/teenager/young person to become a SYC member?

Nothing it is Free!! However most of our sessions cost £1.00 and we also have a canteen where we sell food and drink. Check our Facebook page for more info on the next session.

Is my child safe during SYC events and session?

We are a professional organisation and we take safety very seriously. All our volunteers and committee members are DBS checked and go through an application process before they join the team.

A qualified first aider is always available on every session.

Most of our volunteers have had youth work training, and all have had safeguard training.

We have public liability insurance.

Every activity we run is risk assessed.

The library building complies to all fire and safety regulations.

When are your sessions/events and what times and days are they?

At the moment we run them on an adhock basis simply due to staffing. Usually on Thursday nights between 7-9pm however these are subject to change. Check out our events/sessions page, Facebook or twitter pages for more details on the next session.

My child has a physical/ mental disability can he/she join SYC?

Of course they can be a member and we will do our best to cater for everyone. However if a young person requires specialist/one to one care unfortunately we may not be able to accommodate due to lack of trained volunteers at this point in time. The best thing would be to email to see how best we can help.
